"And baby you know my hands are dirty" I think this line is not literal. Dirty hands mean, he did something wrong and that is why his girlfriend can not forgive him.
I think he talks about a relationship that had problems before, so when he wants to fix it, it's too late, because maybe the girl got tired of giving more than him, and now that she leaves he repents, but he tells her that It will always be for her and that he would have liked to share more moments with her, a very sad song in my opinion :(

But also he say “Words can’t say what love can do. I’ll be there for you.” because he wants to show her that he is willing to do anything to repare the mistake and be together again.
I think it's a very sad but romantic song at the same time.

Well first of all I don't like a lot this song because Bon Jovi always talks about love and that kind of things... I think this song talks about a sad man and the bad relationship that he drives and how a relationship could drive someone crazy at the edge to think about suicide.
